It comes in waves, this memory ebbing and flowing along the sandy shores of my subconscious. This is the reality I yearn for, weightless, lucid, sublime. The dream is the only way I care to live anymore, and I know it can’t be a dream if it’s not with you.
I reach for your hand, but I grasp at nothing. Yet still, there you are, standing right in front of me, that deceitful smile stretched across your face, hiding the truth behind copper curls and red-rimmed glasses. You know that I know, but you tell me everything’s fine. All I want is for you to be honest for once. Why can’t you give me that? What’s holding you back?
I blink, and it’s already too late. Silence. That’s all there is. All there ever will be. The absence of you, even as you stand there before me, drenched in midnight halos of ocean blue. You are the same, and you are different. You are more, and you are less. You are simply…gone.
I still can’t figure out why…
