Prompt - "My denial keeps you here."

This wasn’t supposed to happen. You weren’t supposed to go. I was supposed to save you.

I just don’t get it. You were doing so well. Your students loved you, and you loved them. You couldn’t stop raving about them every day when you came home, how creative and funny they all were. It sounded like any given moment on any given day had the potential to be simply beautiful.

Honestly, I was jealous. I yearned to have that same kind of connection with my work. I was getting there, writing more and more each day, but now that you’re gone… I feel like I’m back to square one. All my energy has evaporated, and I can’t fathom how I might get it back.

We had everything we could want. Our own place, our own space, freedom to be ourselves. Life was unhindered. Everything was fine. Until it wasn’t. It just doesn’t make sense.

Is this how my friends felt when I almost…? Fuck.

I don’t know what to do without you. How am I supposed to move on from this?

I… I can’t.

I won’t accept this. You don’t just get to consume me so perfectly and then leave. I refuse to let go. And if that’s wrong, I don’t care. All I know is that my denial will keep you here with me. That’s all that matters. That’s all I want. You and me, forever and always.
