Prompt - "Can we stay a while, asleep in another world?"

We look to the sky, minds lost in the ever-shifting clouds, vision obscured by the dancing branches of the elder oak that has stood tall over this field since before either of us were born.

It’s like a dream, lucid and endless, this peace we have created for ourselves. It pulsates through the bones, ethereal and powerful. It can’t be completely captured in words, try as we might. As if to prove that point, when I try to speak, it’s no surprise that she silences me.

Her smile is perfect, like something they should hang in the Louvre. She traces a finger along my cheek, then waves it in the air like a piece of candy for me to chase after. I do, of course, and I capture her hand in mine. I place a kiss in her palm, hold her hand close, drop another kiss atop her head, and lower her into my embrace.

“Can we stay like this a little while longer?” she asks. “Asleep in another world...”

I nod, unable to find a single solitary reason to disrupt this moment. One moment. The only moment that matters.
